Learning Guide

This is the learning guide to our course orientation.  You will find a learning guide, at the start of each lesson.  The learning guide is a brief road map to all of the work you need to accomplish in this unit to be successful.  Many students print the learning guide and check off their completed work.

This brief module will provide you with an overview of course expectations.  Set aside some time to review all the information in this module as it will help you succeed as an online student.

Technology Requirements & Student Support

Basic computer requirements for access to the university system can be found at the MyUindy or on this site . During your preparation for the on campus classes, you need to install Microsoft Office for your personal computer. At a significant discount, you can rent Microsoft Office for $79.99 through the technology page at the MyUindy site. After you have logged on to My UIndy, click on the Technology tab and scroll down the web page until you see “Discounts for Students & Staff”. You should then click on “Buy Microsoft products”

SPSS Grad Pack will need to be purchased for this class as most of the analyses will be conducted using this program.  You can download the program from the web.  It is important that purchase the correct package which is: "IBM SPSS Statistics Grad Pack 22.0 STANDARD DOWNLOAD - Windows or Mac - 12 month license - can install on up to 2 computers". The price is $89.00.  DO NOT purchase just the Grad Pack Base as it will not have all the programs needed.

For the On-campus intensive classes, you will need to bring a fully charged laptop (MAC or PC) with SPSS and Microsoft Office programs installed and ready to use these documents. Chrome, Firefox and Safari are compatible internet browsers for ACE. Along with SPSS, we will use on occasion Microsoft Word, and Excel.

If you are having problems with Microsoft Office downloads or operation, please feel free to contact the Help Desk at the University, 317-788-6145, help@uindy.edu. If you are calling during office hours and are long distance you can use the following number: 800-232-8634 to reach the switchboard. Ask them to connect you to the Help Desk. The University including the Help Desk will be closed Dec. 24, 2014 - Jan. 1, 2015. Be sure to have all your software installed (Microsoft Office and SPSS) on your laptop that you will be bringing to school for the on-campus classes.

Some students have difficulty uploading and downloading essential files needed to complete assignments, the problem is probably your browser.  Please contact the Help Desk to assist you in configuring your Firefox or Safari browser.

For the On-campus class, you will need to bring a Windows compatible laptop. During our two days together you will be installing essential statistical software for this online course. If you have a MAC, it is essential that you configure your computer to be able to run Windows software.  The Windows operating system can be purchased and then contact the Apple Store for assistance in configuring Bootcamp or other emulation software to allow you to run Windows.
